WY #2 - Dubois, The GRAND TETONS!!! Jackson Hole and Jackson

Friday,  July 10th – Travel day for us, but what beauty we saw.  We took longer than usual as we kept pulling over to take photos.  I also took a lot while we were driving, and I posted a few on FB.  It was so funny.  One of my friends said he enlarged them and then kept trying to clean his computer screen, finally realizing they were spots and bugs on our windshield.  Haha That’s the bad part of photos while driving!  What a beautiful and majestic state Wyoming is, and we’ve just gotten to this part.  Can’t wait to see more.

We got in to the Longhorn Ranch Lodge and RV Park in Dubois about 3:00, getting the LAST spot available! For my RVing friends, full hookup, big rig friendly and $50 a night.  There are riverfront sites and really wooded places, but they were all taken.  But on this particular stay we’ll likely be gone a lot, so not as important.  It’s lovely here, but internet is crappy and cell coverage is even sketchy.  We have about one bar and 3G service!  Even our Verizon air card is 3G up here!  Wow, guess we’ll have to “unplug” a little more than we generally do, which is not always a bad thing.  I do like to keep up with email and FB though, and share a little of what we’re doing.

After getting all set up, we gave the RV a MUCH needed bath!  FINALLY, we can use water here.  Everywhere we’ve been for weeks there are such rigid water restrictions, it was all we could do just to get the windshield washed! So it’s all scrubbed clean and looking good, even though we’d have preferred warmer temperatures to be out washing it!  Then we came in and cleaned up and went into Dubois, in our jeans and jackets!  Very brisk 46 degrees at the park but about 56 in the town. We found out that it’s pronounced just like it’s spelled (not the Du-bwa we were calling it, like a French word). We enjoyed strolling through the town with its boardwalk sidewalks, and very authentic old western look!  We ate a wonderful steak dinner at the Rustic Pine Grill and Steakhouse.

Then we went to a RODEO!  Yay, I’ve been wanting to go to a rodeo ever since Texas!  This was great!  Only thing it was COLD.  We had on hats and coats and a blanket over my lap! What a fun night!

Saturday, July 11th – Incredible beauty around us!  We drove through the southern part of Grand Teton National Park to Jackson and Jackson Hole.  We kept stopping and taking photos and I was just awed at the jaw-dropping beauty!  I finally told Earl my mouth had just hung open for so long I was going to just leave it that way.  Haha  Seriously, the majesty and grandeur of this place must be seen.  You’ll enjoy these photos, but there’s nothing like being here and realizing just how immense the Grand Tetons are!  Just breathtaking!

We loved Jackson.  Our Nebraska friends, Harold and Anita Smith have vacationed here several times, so they gave us awesome tips of what to see and do.  Again, Jackson Hole is a very western town with scenic views on every hand.  We went to the Mountain Lodge and had a drink at The Spur there, where you can just sit on the deck and revel in the beauty all around us.

This place is gorgeous and we’d love to come back and stay here at the lodge for a vacation!  Just beautiful!  Then we went on into town and ate at Bubba’s BBQ, again a recommendation from Anita, and it was possibly some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had!
 Just DELICIOUS!
 Scenes from downtown Jackson....

The Sheriff of Jackson County just roams around town on his horse, being friendly to visitors.

Can you imagine running into one of these mammoth animals in the wild?  Yikes!

Found the perfect spot for Earl while I shopped.  LOL
Is this not a really cool chess set?
 Magnificent sculpture!

During this time, Anita and I were messaging back and forth and she told us to not miss the Bar J Chuckwagon Supper and Western Show while we were in town.  So I quickly called and made reservations, and it’s a good thing.  Sold out crowd.  We got there at 5:30 and the line was crazy long!  But we enjoyed chatting with the people in line with us, all so friendly and just so happy for us taking this long trip.  Everyone says they want to do this someday!  The 2 men behind us were brothers here from Alabama and come to find out, one was a pastor of a church near Montgomery!  Of course, we had lots in common and it made the long line enjoyable passing of time.  We were sorry we couldn’t sit together.  IF we had known that we were coming here, we would NOT have had a big lunch like we did.  We never eat two big meals in a day, and a huge chuckwagon dinner was served.  I barely tasted any of mine – just too full, so NEXT time we come, we’ll come hungry!
This was the LOOOOOONG line of people when WE arrived 90 minutes early!!!

The two photos below, I WISH I could have truly captured the feeling!  They had this outhouse that just begged you to open the door.....
When you open the door, there is a cowboy sitting inside!!!!  Earl did it first and then completely fooled me.  I almost dropped my camera.  I was horrified. hahahaha

Sunday, July 12th, we enjoyed the live streaming of The Cross, knowing our kids were right there.  We were actually amazed we could get it as the internet here leaves a lot to be desired, but except for an occasional buffering, it was great.  Awesome music and great message by Pastor Zach, so we felt like we’d been to church!  We enjoyed a quiet day, catching up on email, catching up on my blog writings, a long conversation with my sister in SC, and then our favorite thing….reading.  Later in the afternoon we took a long walk around the RV Resort and here's a few photos of the Wind River that winds all thoughout Wyoming.... really pretty - this is the section just across the street from where we're parked.

Enjoyed reading all afternoon - isn't the sky so pretty here?
Tomorrow ......  Yellowstone!!!  YAY!!!
